Cold Laser Therapy
There is some literature to suggest that a low-level laser light may help some patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. At this time, most insurance companies including Medicare have not seen demonstrable results from this treatment. There are multiple advertisements advocating its use and effectiveness, but indeed there are no good prospective randomized trials demonstrating efficacy. When cold laser was first released, we did find that some patients did improve from this treatment. We do have it available to patients who want to consider this as an alternative form of therapy. Our experience and that in the scientific literature suggests that it is generally a safe alternative, but unfortunately the results are not guaranteed and have not been subject to rigorous scientific studies.
Please do not consider advertisements in the newspaper or information sent by practitioners in the mail demonstrating that this is a clearly effective and scientifcally proven technique. It is an unproven alternative that we have available if you want to consider this option.
